III Salão do Cavalo Lusitano: The Next Generation of Stallions
III Salão do Cavalo Lusitano Licenses 75 New Stallions
From January 29 to February 1, the Sociedade Hípica Portuguesa once again became the meeting point for breeders, professionals, and enthusiasts of the Lusitano horse, hosting the III Salão do Cavalo Lusitano. Organized by the Associação Portuguesa do Cavalo Puro Sangue Lusitano (APSL), the event continues to strengthen its position as one of the most important dates on the national and international Lusitano calendar.
Now in its third edition, the Salão brings together what was previously spread across several smaller events throughout the year. Today, it stands as a central reference point for the breed, offering a unique opportunity to see and compare the new stallions for the breeding season in one place. Visitors from across the globe travel to Portugal each year to take part in this key moment for the Lusitano community.
Over four days, Lisbon welcomed a large and passionate audience, with packed stands throughout the event. Persistent rain and challenging weather conditions did little to affect attendance, as breeders and enthusiasts continued to fill the venue daily to follow the stallion approvals and experience the unique atmosphere of one of the breed’s most important showcases.
Once again, APSL delivered an exemplary level of organization. From the careful preparation of the venue to the overall atmosphere and technical setup, every detail reflected a high standard of professionalism. The installation of several large screens throughout the venue allowed spectators to comfortably follow the stallion approvals from different areas, greatly improving the visitor experience. The addition of VIP tents around the arena also contributed to on-site comfort, providing welcoming spaces where breeders, professionals, and visitors could meet and connect throughout the event.
The livestream broadcast, now a recognized hallmark of the Salão, was once again a major success. It brought the III Salão do Cavalo Lusitano to audiences worldwide, further strengthening the international visibility and reputation of the Lusitano horse. You can review the presentations DAY 1, DAY 2, DAY 3.

Following the rankings, two stallions shared second place with a strong score of 77.5 points:

Showcase of Stallions
On Saturday, the owners of Lusitano stallions had the opportunity to present their horses directly to the audience, sharing insights about each stallion’s qualities and what they could offer to breeding programs. This initiative provided a unique chance for breeders from around the world to get to know the horses up close and see them in action, highlighting not only their athleticism but also their temperament and presence.
The showcase proved to be both informative and engaging, allowing visitors to connect with the stallions on a deeper level and better understand their potential in breeding projects. It is a format that could be expanded in future editions, giving even more stallions the opportunity to shine and further promoting the breed’s diversity and excellence.
Lusitano Stallions: Tradition Meets Sport Performance
The stallion approvals at this year’s Salão left a highly positive impression. Many horses demonstrated strong breed type, expressive movement, and enhanced functionality, reflecting the thoughtful breeding choices shaping the modern Lusitano. The breed is preserving its identity while evolving steadily toward sport performance. The event highlighted the balance that defines today’s Lusitano: rooted in tradition, yet increasingly athletic, versatile, and competitive. From the youngest four-year-olds to seasoned sires, visitors witnessed quality, functionality, and presence coming together in every stride.
With 70 new stallions licensed, a successful showcase, and an expertly organized event connecting breeders, professionals, and enthusiasts from around the world, the III Salão do Cavalo Lusitano reinforced its role as a key platform for the breed’s growth and international recognition. The future of the Lusitano horse looks brighter than ever.
