After a break imposed by COVID pandemic, from 17th to the 19th September all eyes will be set on 'Hipódromo Manuel Possolo' in Cascais, where the most important even of the Lusitano breed will take place – the XXXII International Lusitano Horse Festival is finally back!

This is probably the most important and awaited event for all Lusitano lovers, a true showcase for the new generations of the breed! APSL has prepared an agenda of 3 days packed with tons of action.

As the mornings will be dedicated to the veterinary admission to the competitions, all the excitement is set for the afternoon and evening period. The event will kick off on Friday 17th with the dressage test for the Working Equitation National Championship, followed by a parade for the Model and Movement competition for the female classes, with the Female Champion in hand being known later that day. The night will be dedicated to the Equestrian Art with a show at Picadeiro Henrique Calado in Belém.

On Saturday 18th the Working Equitation Championship keeps on going with the Functionality test – where horses and riders are evaluated by their ability, precision and harmony to overcome the obstacles of the course. At 3pm it is time for the males to step on the grass of Manuel Possolo Hippodromes – who will be the Male Champion in hand stealing the show? After several important homages and project presentations, this exciting and busy day will be wrapped up with a night Equestrian Show.

The last day of the Festival, Sunday 19th, will be dedicated to the ridden classes of both female and males, with the respective Champions being announced in the end of each category. The speed test for the Working Equitation will conclude this round of the Championship and determine the best pairs in the show. By the end of the day, the most awaited Best Breeder Award will be declared, followed by a prize ceremony to the Champions of the different classes.

This event will take place in compliance with the government safety rules for COVID. Here is what you need to know:

  • The event is open to the audience, but with a limited number of spectators.
  • The use of mask is mandatory as well as social distance.
  • The visitors will need to present a vaccination certificate or a negative test. APSL has established an agreement with Cascais’ county for the provision of a mobile rapid testing unit to COVID 19 which will be present at door 1.

Compliance with these rules will be a demonstration of the civic duty of Lusitano Horse lovers throughout all the country. Please respect it!
