Pergaminho do Vouga

For those searching for a Lusitano stallion with size, character and colour, Pergaminho do Vouga deserves a closer look. His rich liver chestnut coat gives him an immediate identity, but there is much more behind the first impression: he is a licensed and proven breeding stallion whose story is now developing in a new direction under saddle.

Bred at Rocas do Vouga, Pergaminho is by Gengibre, a son of Tulum do Comando, and out of Evita do Castanheiro, by Zurquis do Comando. His value as a sire is already proven, with 10 offspring on the ground, several of whom can be seen at Rocas do Vouga Stud. For buyers attending the auction, this is a unique opportunity to see what he has produced before the bidding begins.

His ridden career is a more recent chapter. Pergaminho was started somewhat later and remains relatively inexperienced for his age, but he is now established in a consistent dressage training programme and showing remarkable progression. There is still plenty to develop, making him particularly interesting for someone who enjoys being part of a horse’s evolution rather than stepping into a finished product. This later start is also reflected in a particularly attractive opening bid, creating an interesting opportunity to acquire a proven breeding stallion whose potential under saddle is still unfolding.

He gives a very pleasant feeling in the saddle. The contact is light and soft, he is smooth and comfortable to sit, and his straightforward nature makes the work uncomplicated. Of his three correct gaits, the canter is a particular highlight, showing natural balance, good activity from behind and an encouraging ability to carry himself as his training progresses.

Pergaminho is also a stallion with a genuinely good mind. He is cooperative in the daily routine and easy to work around, qualities that matter enormously when choosing a horse intended to combine a future in sport with continued breeding possibilities. This is perhaps what makes Pergaminho most interesting: his breeding career is already proven, while his ridden career is only beginning to reveal what may be possible. For his next owner, the opportunity lies in taking an established Lusitano sire and continuing to develop a completely different side of him.

Pergaminho do Vouga will be offered at the Rocas do Vouga Auction 2026, with Lusitano World giving international buyers the opportunity to discover him — and his legacy at the stud — in person. If you would like to discuss Pergaminho with us personally, our Lusitano World agents will be happy to tell you more about him and help you understand whether he could be the right match for you.
