Sorrento do Vouga

How could you not get excited about a young horse like this? Athletic, naturally expressive and wonderfully uncomplicated, this promising Lusitano stallion already shows many of the qualities we look for in a future dressage horse, even though his journey under saddle has only just begun. Born in November 2021, he is still at an early stage of his education, but his natural balance, willingness to cooperate and quality of movement make him a particularly interesting prospect. He has an athletic, harmonious conformation and three naturally ground-covering gaits, with good hindleg activity and an easy, forward way of going. His pedigree is equally exciting, bringing together two 4* Recommended Lusitano stallions in his direct bloodlines. A son of Riopele and a grandson of the renowned Hostil, he inherits a genetic background that combines the traditional Lusitano type and character with the athleticism, functionality and sporting qualities sought after in modern dressage horses.

His walk is a particular pleasure to watch, showing four clear beats, good overtrack and a relaxed, purposeful rhythm. The trot is expressive and naturally forward, with the ability to cover ground and lengthen his frame without losing balance. His canter is equally encouraging, offering a consistent rhythm, good natural balance and active engagement from behind. Across all three gaits, there is an athletic quality that gives us plenty to look forward to as his strength and education develop. Despite having only recently started his training, he has already shown himself to be cooperative, straightforward and genuinely pleasant to ride. He accepts the contact softly, responds willingly to his rider and approaches his work with a positive attitude. His basic education is developing nicely, and there is no sense of having pushed him beyond what is appropriate for his age. With his bloodlines, conformation and natural movement, we can easily picture him in the dressage arena, particularly in young horse classes. In fact, he is expected to compete at the Rocas do Vouga Festival, offering prospective buyers the opportunity to see him in action ahead of the auction. It will be a lovely occasion to appreciate not only his movement, but also his attitude and how he handles a competition environment at this early stage of his career.

For a professional rider or trainer looking for a quality young Lusitano to bring along, he offers an exciting project with a lovely foundation already in place. His temperament also suggests that, with continued education and the right guidance, he could eventually become a very enjoyable partner for an amateur rider. At this stage, however, he remains a young horse who will benefit from professional support as he gains experience, strength and confidence. A promising young stallion with natural athletic ability, an excellent attitude and plenty of room to grow, he will be offered at the Rocas do Vouga Auction this December, with an appealing starting price that makes him an especially interesting opportunity for those who enjoy bringing a young horse along.
