SOS do Vouga

They say the best things sometimes come in smaller packages, and SOS do Vouga might just be the perfect example! At just five years old, this charming Lusitano has already surprised us with how naturally he approaches his work, showing a level of talent and understanding that goes well beyond what we would normally expect from a horse of his age. Born in September 2021, SOS currently stands at 1.57 m, with an expected mature height of approximately 1.60 m. He is a compact, well-proportioned horse with a more classical Lusitano appearance, reflecting the traditional Veiga and Borba bloodlines found in his pedigree. For those who appreciate the original character and type of the breed, he has plenty of appeal.

Under saddle, SOS is an absolute pleasure! He has never been rushed in his training; he simply offers so much, so willingly, that his education has progressed remarkably naturally. He is attentive, quick to respond to the rider's aids and genuinely eager to understand what is being asked of him. Even more impressive is his forgiving nature. Despite his young age and sensitivity, he accepts mistakes without becoming worried or complicated, maintaining a wonderfully positive attitude towards his work. His three gaits are correct and pleasant, but the canter is undoubtedly his greatest highlight. Naturally balanced and easy to organise, it is a gait in which everything seems to come effortlessly to him. His flying changes are already well established, and he performs them with remarkable ease and enthusiasm. The lateral work is also progressing nicely, giving him a level of education that is particularly encouraging for such a young horse.

What makes SOS so enjoyable is the combination of his natural ability and his personality. He is one of those horses who always seems to be in a good mood, happy to work and ready to give his best. There is no unnecessary complication in his approach to training, just a genuine willingness to cooperate and learn. His balance, responsiveness and compact conformation also make him a particularly versatile prospect for both Dressage and Working Equitation. We believe he has the qualities to develop successfully in either discipline, depending on the interests and ambitions of his future rider.

Looking ahead, SOS has all the ingredients to become a wonderful amateur horse. Naturally, at five years old, he will still benefit from the guidance of a professional trainer to consolidate his education and continue developing correctly. For an ambitious amateur wishing to bring a talented young Lusitano along with professional support, he offers a particularly rewarding opportunity. Equally, his age, advanced training and excellent rideability make him an interesting prospect for someone looking to invest in a quality young horse.

SOS do Vouga is undoubtedly one of the young horses to watch at the Rocas do Vouga Auction 2026: he is a horse whose personality is every bit as appealing as his talent, and we believe his future could be very bright in the right hands. If you feel SOS could be the right horse for you, our Lusitano World team would be delighted to tell you more about him and help you discover whether he could be your perfect match. You can also meet and ride him during the exclusive pre-auction experience, a wonderful opportunity to appreciate his qualities firsthand. For further information or to arrange a trial, get in touch at horses@lusitanoworld.com.
