SPUTNIK DO VOUGA

Sputnik means “companion” in Russian, and it is difficult to imagine a more fitting name for this promising young Lusitano. With an exceptional attitude towards work, a naturally balanced way of going and a genuine willingness to cooperate with his rider, Sputnik do Vouga has all the ingredients to become a very special partner for the years ahead. His pedigree brings together two important influences in Lusitano breeding, combining modern sport genetics with the classical roots of the breed. Through his sire, he is a grandson of Hostil, a 5* Merit stallion, while his dam is a daughter of Violino, a 4* Recommended Lusitano stallion. This genetic background adds further interest to a young horse already demonstrating very encouraging qualities of his own.

Currently standing at 1.61m, Sputnik is expected to mature to approximately 1.63m. He has a compact, harmonious conformation and three correct gaits, with the canter being a particular highlight. Naturally uphill, expressive and well balanced, it is a gait that immediately suggests interesting possibilities for his future. Considering his physical qualities and natural coordination, we believe he has the potential to develop successfully in both Dressage and Working Equitation.

Beyond his athletic qualities, Sputnik’s greatest strength lies in his exceptional attitude towards work. He is exceptionally focused on his work, attentive to his rider and always willing to learn. He approaches each training session with a positive attitude, maintaining a pleasant contact and an uncomplicated feeling under saddle. There is a genuine desire to understand what is being asked of him, making him particularly enjoyable to train. His basic education is already well established, and he is now beginning to develop the lateral exercises. He approaches new challenges with confidence and ease, showing the balance and willingness that will become increasingly valuable as his education progresses.

For an ambitious amateur working alongside a professional trainer, Sputnik offers an appealing opportunity to develop a young horse with quality, character and versatility. He has the foundations to make the journey enjoyable, while leaving plenty of room for his future rider to explore his abilities and shape his career. Sputnik do Vouga is one of the promising young Lusitanos offered at the Rocas do Vouga Auction 2026, and a horse we believe deserves particular attention from riders who value trainability as much as athletic ability. If you would like to get to know Sputnik better, our Lusitano World team would be delighted to discuss his qualities, current training and future potential with you.
